{"id":22840,"date":"2020-06-05T13:09:05","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T17:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/museumhack.com\/?p=22840"},"modified":"2020-06-05T14:20:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T18:20:19","slug":"black-lives-matter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/museumhack.com\/black-lives-matter\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Lives Matter."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Black lives matter.<\/p>\n<p>Not just now, or before, but f***ing forever.<\/p>\n<p>As we observe hundreds of years of American history and a civilization-span of human history, a few things are clear.<\/p>\n<p>First, the structural and individual racism that oppresses, imprisons, and murders Black people is very real.<\/p>\n<p>Second, this racism isn\u2019t new. Current events are the direct result of ongoing and racist police brutality, and a predictable outcome of a system that supports white supremacy.<\/p>\n<p>Museum Hack is complicit in this system, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have known for years that our hiring practices for guides do not result in diversity. We have not made sufficient effort to correct this.<\/li>\n<li>We do not provide the training or budget to create racially-inclusive experiences.<\/li>\n<li>We profit from accessing institutions that are also complicit in the oppression of Black people and culture.<\/li>\n<li>Our pricing structure makes Museum Hack tours inaccessible to many people.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are more examples, and we will uncover even more in the months and years to come. We are remiss in not making change a priority earlier, before the eyes of America were focused on these issues.<\/p>\n<p>Here is how we are starting to take action:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Instead of trying to quickly update broken systems, like recruitment and hiring; we will rebuild these systems from the ground up to support diversity and inclusion.<\/li>\n<li>We will work with BIPOC advisors for guidance.<\/li>\n<li>Through the end of 2020, we are matching up to $5000 in donations to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.civilrightsmuseum.org\/give\" rel=\"noopener\">The National Civil Rights Museum<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nmaahc.si.edu\/connect\/give\">The National Museum of African American History and Culture<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moadsf.org\/support-us\/make-a-donation\/donate\/\">The Museum of African Diaspora<\/a>, or any other institution with a proven record of accurately depicting Black history. Send your donation receipts to <a href=\"mailto:match@museumhack.com\">match@museumhack.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Before restarting our tour program, we will seek out training for our staff on anti-racism, diversity, inclusion, and historical accuracy.<\/li>\n<li>We will use our platform to amplify Black voices.<\/li>\n<li>We will not be silent.<\/li>\n<li>We will buy books and other resources from Black-owned businesses.<\/li>\n<li>We will update our website to support Black Lives Matter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will continue to learn and do more.<\/p>\n<p>Black lives matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Black lives matter.
